Education

I earned my B.A. from St. Lawrence University. While there I double-majored in Sociology and PCA, which stands for Performance and Communications Arts. I then earned an M.A. in African and African Diaspora Studies from Florida International University. Most recently, I took Education certifying courses at John Hopkins University. I also continue to receive education through professional development courses. I plan to continue my education by pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership.

Experience

Education is much more than a means to a "good job." Education is an opportunity to positively shape the society in which we live. My passion, optimism, and ability to recognize the larger purpose of education fuels my resilient dedication when given the opportunity to work in a position related to education. I have valuable experiences with teaching, advising, community building, fundraising and mentoring all age groups both in the United States and abroad. I've tutored and mentored in Trinidad, South Africa, Florida, New York, Jamaica, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. My experience with these and other related positions continue to strengthen my skills in activating the potential in a diverse group of students and co-workers, building meaningful relationships with stakeholders, creative problem solving, and growing a positive environment. I currently teach 10th grade English in Prince Georges County and previously worked at an elementary school in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Hobbies

At a very young age, my parents introduced me to music and dance. As a lover of the arts, I often find ways to teach using arts integration. Making learning enjoyable is my priority. Nonetheless, I am a flexible educator who works hard to meet the needs of my student. My patience, positivity, and compassion make learning less stressful for the student. My main goal as your tutor is to help you make progress no matter your starting point.
